Ratan was born in Mumbai and went to Cornell University to study architecture after his schooling. He joined the Tata Group in 1961 as a salesman on the company floor. Under his leadership, Tata\u2019s revenue went up by 40% and the company acquired some foreign companies to expand into other industries.
