He was born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. Kalam’s early life was defined by determination and simplicity. 

Kalam’s parents never allowed their financial challenges to become academic barriers for him. He studied at Schwartz Higher Secondary School and later attended St. Joseph’s College, Tiruchirapalli. Later, he pursued his aerospace engineering at Madras Institute of Technology (MIT).

Career

His career began at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). He found his true calling when he joined Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in 1969.
